Many stiles, gates and signposts along the route have been re-furbished by volunteers from the Beverley Group of the East Yorkshire and Derwent Ramblers, in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The City of York Council  has replaced all the stiles along the River Derwent, between Stamford Bridge and Kexby, by metal gates.

In the interests of safety, a zig-zag path has been installed, in order to alleviate the very steep descent into Sylvan Dale, (see page 22 of guidebook).
